Snow family waves hello to weather changes
2024-01-05 - Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com. This snow family made great holiday decorations but can stay out into the new year reminding us snow can be in the forecast any time there's rain and temperatures below the freezing mark. Showers arrive tonight and are predicted to stay into the weekend so drive carefully and watch for black ice.

Fishing must go on even in cold weather
2024-01-04 - Green River Lake - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com. To some, there's rarely weather that's bad enough to keep dedicated anglers away from the water and the possibility of a good catch. This picture was made on one of our coldest days of fall, but there's probably someone on the lake in today's low temperatures.

Sunset Poetry
2024-01-04 - Fairplay, KY - Photo by Veronica Arnold. Veronica writes: This is the sunset January 3rd, 2024, in Fairplay. There is a poem that comes to mind when the sunset turns golden and pinkness seems to fill the very air around you. I always think of the first stanza of this poem! That fleeting light and pure delightful bright colored light... it is The Children's Hour!
I copied the first stanza below for those not familiar with the poem, The Children's Hour, by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow:
Between the dark and the daylight,
When the night is beginning to lower,
Comes a pause in the day's occupations,
That is known as the Children's Hour
