2024-01-06 - Adair County, KY - Photo by Larry Baker. This American Bald Eagle walked and flew in a field beside Allen's Schoolhouse Road. Larry Baker said he felt a special blessing when he saw it as he headed to his father-in-law, Pastor Ronnie Rhodes' home, a man who loved and collected eagles up until his death last year. Larry made a video of the eagle and it can be viewed on his Facebook page.

These handy recycling bins are in key places in Columbia and I've asked if Fiscal Court could buy them and sell them to the public.
With clear plastic bags it looks easy to track progress. Meanwhile, please share your methods for those of us trying to do it better in 2024. - LW

Birds of Kentucky: Easy-going
2024-01-05 - Shelbyville, KY - Photo by Pen. There's been a snow goose hanging out with the Canadians at a Shelbyville park for the past couple of weeks. It tends to hang mid-flock, close enough to spot the distinctive black wingtips, but always gliding just out of range for a decent photograph.
This white goose, on the other hand, is much more sociable. It lives at the park full time, and is typically curious about humans. I had to take several steps away from it just to take a photo, and I suspect it would have hopped right into the car with me to check for crackers, given half a chance.
