Adair Youth Development Center

2024-02-05 - Columbia, KY .
Adair Youth Development Center (AYDC) is one of the juvenile prisons in the state that was covered in the recent audit. The report noted, in part, a consistent lack of strategic direction to detention centers across the state, leaving staff with little to no direction from outdated and inconsistent policies that do not fulfill national standards. For the full report, visit www.auditor.ky.gov.

Birds of Kentucky: Sandhill Crane

2024-02-05 - Kissimmee, FL - Photo by Pen.
Sandhill Cranes are frequent fliers in Kentucky skies, and occasionally land in great numbers in open corn fields. When they're wintering down in Florida, they can be found in 2's and 4's wandering city streets, parks and golf courses. I did my best to slowly approach this bird and another in a park, thinking that I might spook them, only to have them come so close that I had to keep backing up just to get room for a photo.
