February 15th, the day to think of Izzie Mae

Easton and Mercedes Bryant's oldest child, Izzie Mae, lives with a condition called Angelman Syndrome. February 15th is International Angelman Day, raising awareness and understanding as well as fundraising toward a cure. Wearing blue is a reminder of the support for her and the day. Easton, pictured with Izzie in the photo at left, shared this quote that means a lot to them, "Just because someone is nonverbal doesn't mean they have nothing to say."

Signs of Spring: Snowdrop

Was pleasantly surprised to see a group of these small white wildflowers blooming mid-February on a recent walk in Beckley Creek Park. According to wildflowersearch.org, they flower from the last week of January thru end of April.

Four-year-old Amelia Nickel enjoyed the Tea Party at the Trabue Russell House Saturday with her mother, Paige. She especially liked the old fashioned valentine card and the hearts on each table.

An option at Columbia's Black Stallion Steakhouse is the bread bowl filled with the soup of the day - in this case potato - and a lettuce wedge salad, both topped off with bacon crumbles.

Making the Tea Party work

Those behind the scene making everything at the Tea Party at the Trabue Russell House taste yummy and function smoothly February 10, 2024 were, seated in front: Mattie Willis, Mary Anne Loy and Maggie Brummett. In back were Ashley Loy, Ila Loy, Sandy Conover, Halle Burton and Luci Irvin. Mary Anne was head chef with Nanwood Market owners Sandy and Luci key to organization and ticket sales.
