Escorting the wreath to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier
2024-04-25 - Arlington, VA - Photo courtesy Sheila Helm. Sheila writes, "Our granddaughter, Gracie Burton (front left), was one of two 8th graders chosen by her school to assist in the escorting of the wreath to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetery, just outside Washington, DC, on April 23, 2024. This was a huge honor and a once in a lifetime experience. What a memorable moment."
The school, Good Shepherd School in Frankfort, also notes in a post on social media that a little before the ceremony, four tour buses of veterans entered the gates, and all the 8th grade students on the trip "made a line and shook just about every veteran's hand that came by."
Gracie is the daughter of Lacey Helm-Taylor and Ronnie Burton.

Full Moon Over the Ridge
2024-04-24 - Adair Co., KY - Photo by Roldcat. Roldcat writes, "Although each month's full moon has a unique name, the name doesn't really have anything to do with the actual moon.
April's full moon which occurred last night, on the 23rd, is called the 'pink moon'. With the thin layer of clouds that we had in Crocus (Southeastern Adair County) the moon did project a pinkish glow in the sky."

Writer Sandi Keaton Wilson read from her works
2024-04-24 - Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com. Sandi Keaton Wilson, center, came to Adair County's first Writers' Day event by way of Somerset, Kentucky. Her work has appeared in numerous college journals, anthologies, and other national publications. She is a nature lover in every sense of the word and a Kentuckian through and through.
In Darlene Campbell's introduction before Sandy read, she said, "The first piece I ever heard from Sandi was about a woman being stuck on an escalator. I laughed so hard that I had tears in my eyes. Then she wowed me with a poem that described Appalachia as a woman. This poem helped inspire a series of paintings back in 2018 that I'm still working on."
