About Adair County writer Darlene Campbell

Darlene Franklin Campbell grew up in wooded areas of Southern Adair County, Kentucky, living in the Gradyville, Flatwoods and Milltown communities.

She graduated from Sparksville Grade Center and Adair County High School then received an Art Scholarship to Lindsey Wilson College where she earned her B.A. and M.A. in education. Her writing and art have appeared in multiple publications, both online and traditional. She has attended the Appalachian Writers Conference, WisCon and the Arrowmont School of Arts.

In 2010, she won the Reader's Choice Award in young adult fiction from the Predators and Editors organization. In 2012, she won the Mary Ballard Poetry award for her work, Uncommon Clay. She has received multiple awards for her art and writing. Proceeds from the sales of her work have gone to fight mountaintop removal and to assist in finding cures for cancer.

Yield sign missing - traffic confused

The yield sign has been missing from the Jamestown Street entry to the Columbia Public Square for several days now. It is unclear to oncoming traffic who goes first.

Spring Plow Day just keeps getting better

The annual Homeplace on Green River Spring Plow Day gets better and better with each passing, growing, year. There were animals and food, vendors and crafters galore, music and games throughout the day. As manager Lynn says, "something for every member of the family."

Writers' Day event organizer Darlene Campbell is pictured reading a piece written by Chad Horn, at left, in a skit they shared. The first writers event was sponsored by the Adair County Arts Council, led and organized by writer, painter, educator Darlene Campbell. She said reviews were very favorable and she hopes this can be one of many such events to encourage writers in Adair County.

Bliss Club sends thanks for help with fundraiser Yard Sale

Bliss Club says "Thanks to everyone who helped make our Yard Sale, held on Saturday, April 20, 2024--to raise funds for Project 'Man's Best Friend, 2' for Sugar Foot Farms in August--a success."
