William Hurt Cemetery

A photo from a 2013 visit to the William Hurt Cemetery off Highway 704 in Fairplay. There was a grave marking ceremony in 2006 for this Revolutionary War soldier who crossed the Delaware with George Washington.

Mike says, "This weekend, Memorial Day, or Decoration Day as it was once known, is the traditional time to revisit our past, reconnect with family and old friends, and honor not only those who died in the service of our great nation, but all deceased veterans, as well as all our revered ones."

Adair Quiz Bowl team competes in Atlanta

Students from Adair County High School joined 319 of the top high school quiz bowl teams on May 25, 2024, at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis for the 2024 High School National Championship Tournament.

The Adair County team consisted of Emma Compton, Sophie Eaton, Skyler Huff, Natalea Kaylor, Benjamin Kingery, Alex Perkins, Annabelle Robertson, Trey Stephens, Madison Turner, D. J. Vertrees, Bailey Watts, and Andrew Zinati. The team was coached by Kate Proctor and Dalton Robertson.

Slow to let go of commencement celebrations

Adair County High School graduates took time for photos with family and friends after the official commencement ceremonies ended Friday evening so that the crowd took a long time to disperse. The rains from the week took a break for the event before coming back before the holiday weekend could be completed.

Historian and retired Postmaster Cora Emma Jessie, at right, enjoyed lunch with family members Thursday at the Lighthouse Restaurant in Sulphur Well. After lunch she was heading for a daily visit with one of her sisters who is not well. From left: Anita Bass, Jackie Parker, Amy Bass, Jordan Crump holding five-month-old Everett, Becky London, Rita McMurtrey and Cora Emma.

First responders on standby through stormy night

Adair Emergency Management Director Mike Keltner is briefing Sheriff Josh Brockman on potential weather events. Staff is on standby for the Sheriff's office, 911 dispatch, road crews and all fire departments for the county should they be needed. The Adair County Annex, 400 Public Square in Columbia, is open for storm shelter in the basement for anyone who may want to utilize it.
