Working together for Sheriff's Deputies pay
2024-09-27 - Columbia, KY - Photo by Vicky Pike of Miss Vicky's Pampered Angus Ranch. Magistrate District 4 Chris Reeder, at left, dug in and worked with all sides of the leadership of Fiscal Court, plus Sheriff Josh Brockman, to help bring about agreement to raise Adair County Deputies by $5 an hour to bring them in alignment with surrounding counties. At right is a happy AC Judge Executive, Larry Russell Bryant, who says he is proud to be able to work together. Bryant pushed for an occupational tax that would raise all county employees and give ability to grow the county in all ways. He was able to get a half percent instead of the one percent most counties in the state have. The ordinance called for that to be reduced to a fourth percent starting in 2025 which Reeder voices objection to.

Quilt art design is Garden Bouquet
2024-09-26 - Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com. Thanks to Jill Petrey for giving details to do further research on the special quilt featured earlier on Columbia Magazine. The name of the quilt pattern appears to be "Garden Bouquet." The pattern was syndicated under the title of The Nancy Page Quilt Club, with one block per week being offered in prominent newspapers during the early 1930s to 1933. Each block had an urn with the two birds on it and a different flower in the middle.
