Pet news - Cooper finally has a friend of his own

2026-02-03 - Adair County, KY - Photo by Lois Cunningham.

Lois Cunningham shares: This is my dog Cooper, he is a rescue from a breeding situation. He is the sweetest thing but very shy, he did not know what grass was. What stairs were, what toys were, or what love was. He has never had an animal friend. He has been around my cats, but they've just basically ignored him.

Late summer, someone dropped the kitten off at my house, they usually drop full grown cats, his name is Sugar Pie and he decided that Cooper was going to be his friend. They eat out of the same dish, Cooper doesn't mind they sleep together and sometimes they just lay around together. Cooper is nine years old and he finally has a friend.

Relaxing in the Shade

2026-02-03 - San Bernardino Co., CA - Photo courtesy Billy Joe Fudge.
Billy Joe writes, "One of our Kentucky crew relaxing on top of his paper sleeping bag in the shade of a Chino State Prison Palm. Disposable paper sleeping bags are as much a staple on Western Fire Detail as toilet paper and fire retardant clothing! Most every fire camp would have a semi-trailer loaded with those sleeping bags. When sleeping on the ground at fire camp, you wanted one to sleep on and one to sleep in."

Daffodil Watch 2026

2026-02-03 - Fairplay, KY - Photo by Veronica Arnold.
Veronica writes, "These babies have been poking out already. I told them, 'too soon,'"' but daffodils are like kids on Christmas morning, bursting forth before Mom is even up. Mother nature is telling them to 'go back to bed, it's too early'. But they persist!"

Warmer temp allowing this picture to change quickly

2026-02-03 - Adair County, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com.
This February 1st photo shows what we'd spent the last week of January fighting, ice on everything. Today, Tuesday, February 3, 2026, we're over freezing and there's a whole lot of dripping and dropping noises making us smile. The question is whether the rain that's predicted to start after lunch will take the snow away.
