Kentucky Color: Garnished Virginia Pine
2015-01-16 - Columbia, KY - Photo by Billy Joe Fudge, Retired District Forester, Kentucky Division of Forestry. It's a beautiful tree, and is referred to as "Virginia Pine" rather than "Virginia Scrub Pine." The wood is not of high quality, but is used locally to produce shavings for bedding. The cones are not only gorgeous outdoor decorations, but they also play a role in the crazy sex life of the tree, as explained in the accompanying piece. - BILLY JOE FUDGE

Favorite Old Photo: Old Coburg Store, ca 1940s
2015-01-16 - Coburg, KY - Photo from the collection of Larry Smith, FM 92.7 the WAVE and FM 99.9 The Big Dawg. Wow! If this old store were still standing in Coburg, KY, it would be the biggest attraction in the area. Would love to know more about it. There are cues in the photo - the old Chevy coupe, the Texaco signs, the hand pumped glass bowl gas dispensers, and the advertising signs. Any comments would be appreciated. - Larry Smith, Operations Manager, Shoreline Communications.

Gas is $1.87 in Lincoln County, at Moreland, KY
2015-01-15 - Moreland, KY - Photo By Chris Bennett. Chris Bennett spotted really cheap gas in Lincoln County, this morning, Wed 15 Jan 2015. Gas prices have plummeted in Adair County, with some $1.97 regular gas at Five-Star. A truly great deal is $2.02 at Lynn's Service Center, where they pump the gas, and, on request, wash windshields, check oil and other fluids, even air up your tires. So far as we can determine, this is the only station which does all that - and it's a place where everybody knows almost everybody's name.
