Stream Diversion project days - no more than weeks from start
2015-03-23 - Fairground Street at Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. The long awaited stream diversion project, channeling Town Creek to the left of the white building in the left background, shows signs of being ready to start. Consideration now in attention to the condemnation action for right-away across the Parson Heirs been continues to be for the work not to interfere with Lindsey Wilson Spring Semester travel or with Adair County High School busses traffic, from information received. When the work is completed, the Big Ditch will be covered, improving the appearance of the intersection, and flooding of the Campbellsville Street Roadway and business property should be a thing of the past.

ACE's Governor's Cup students at Board Meeting 19 Mar 2015
2015-03-23 - 1204 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. The highlight of every school board meeting are the presentations by the kids. Thursday, March 19, 2015, was no exception. The Adair County Elementary School Governor's Cup team, above, led the pledge of allegiance. The team, coached by Jeana Pike (Future Problem Solving) and Lisa Newell-Hare (Quick Recall), are, in no particular order, Noah Newell, Elizabeth Smith, Gracie Baker, Amber Loy, Kiara Collins, Kennedy Stephens, Luke Stotts, Sadie Kemp, Briley Burns, Kami Pike, Mirah Murphy, Jacob Polston, Angelina Firkins, Kalli Bailey, Colin Stephens, Colin Pike, Madeline Hardwick and Leah Dykes. The group was introduced by their principal, Steve Burton. Board Members and the audience stay an extra 5 or 10 minutes because of the visits, but never complain, and frequently remind others that the appearance of the kids at the outset sets the tone for the meetings, a reminder, Supertintendent Reed says, that "Everything we do is about the kids."

CAUD's biggest challenge? Cleaner water for City, AC school kids
2015-03-23 - Jefferson Alley & Burkesville Street, Columbia, KY - Photo photo courtesy Connie Stotts, Stotts Construction. One of the immediate and major concerns to assure clean, potable water for the City of Columbia, KY, is replacement of ancient pipe like this. Already, $1.7 million of a $4,000,000 project has been spent, with some major improvements for areas where lines have been replaced. However, because of distribution routes, even the areas in the Downtown Project which have been upgraded continue to be affected by pipes like these which have not been replaced. Even water which flows to the Adair County School District is affected by pipes like these. Some suggest the situation in a paradigm to heart surgery: If the surgery includes a heart and arterial replacement, but leaves a septic, diseased, and occluded artery in the system, the patient is still sick.
