Baxter, squirrel hunting Irish Water Spaniel
2015-09-27 - Columbia, KY - Photo by A.W. Reed. Baxter is an Irish Water Spaniel, a curly haired retriever from Canada. He is my best friend, and he could care less about the trials and tribulations of being a school superintendent, so long as he can take a daily dip in a creek, or even tree a squirrel (he has forgotten he is a duck retriever). I've read about Jr. Stott's dog and think that Baxter is more like a state university graduate, while his Queensland Heeler, Lu, is certainly an Ivy leaguer by comparison.
One thing is for sure, Jr. and I both know who our most loyal friends are!
More than once I have been asked if I think dogs go to heaven. All I know is this -If I get there, I will be sorely disappointed if my trusted companions over the years aren't some of the first to run and greet me. - Alan W. Reed

Birds of Kentucky: Black vulture in flight
2015-09-27 - Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. High overhead, above, a gliding black vulture is beautiful in the sky, flying a pattern the the reverse of the frequent medical helicopters which come south through this air space. But on low approaches flying low from the east, the giant birds, are, at the least disconcerting - especially when one is out for a peaceful walk with one's peaceful cat. - EW. Photo Sat 26, 292015.
