First & Farmers Squarecrows display: Flowers & McFarland - #11
2015-10-06 - First & Farmers National Bank, Public Square, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. Rhonda Redmon, above, and Mandy Cross, out of frame at time of photo, had far too much fun creating the the bank's Squarecrow entry, which features - you guessed it, exact likenessess of Sarah Flowers and Jason McFarland. The photo was taken Monday morning, just as Squarecrow mania hit Columbia. It's already paying off for Downtown, Rhonda Redmon said. "Last night there were as many as 50 people walking the Square just enjoying the displays."

Delightful Squarecrow entry: Dollhouse Day Care - #24
2015-10-06 - Front lawn, Historic Adair County Courthouse, 500 Public Square, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. Dollhouse Daycare artists created this delightful scene on the Historic Courthouse lawn eleven or so figures. (For literal countarians, at least one figure is out of frame, but we need your help to get the crowd estimate above a precise number for history's sake.) Don't want to venture where the display will come in in the People's Choice awards, but CM will go on record betting that it will be a real kid-pleaser.

Squarecrow from Pam Spires, Pam's Primitives
2015-10-06 - Public Square at Jamestown Street entrance, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. Pam Spires of Pam's Primitives is responsible for this artistic creation, "Harvest Thyme," which welcomes "Olde Crows," - one would suppose to sit a spell on the old street light pedestal or along the wall of the Adair County Garden Club maintained flower bed.

A sign of Christmas - but not so much of food
2015-10-06 - Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. About the only remotely commercial use of one of these pine cones may be as a decoration. While pine nut lovers may look for local nuts as a source of edible pine nuts, according to the Wikipedia entry: Pine Nuts doesn't leave much room for optimism in that department. May be best to leave these to the animals. (A note: Solution for local production of Pine Nuts might be to build a 6,000 foot mountain along Weed Ridge, which is already one-fifth high enough.)

Begley Chapel Christmas in October?
2015-10-06 - From N Reed Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. It's pretty obvious that this is a depth of field illusion, but at first glance the crowns of Begley Chapel appeared to be decorated with mistletoe, as if for Christmas in October. The tree with the mistletoe is actually one-half block away, below the J.L. Turner Building. Photo taken after attending City Council meeting, Monday, 5 October 2015. - EW

Green River Lake, in the distance at future convention center site
2015-10-06 - Griffin Springs Road, Campbellsville, KY (Greater Coburg) - Photo by Jason Mardis, Aerial Concepts (c) 270-250-1867 drone photo . Shooting at a low altitude, from a distance, Aerial Concepts drone pilot/photographer Jason Mardis was able to get a big part of a site being considered by developers for a new multi-county convention center mentioned by Adair County Judge Executive Michael L. Stephens in recent public meetings. The brown area was in soybeans this year. The lone tower, in the right center of the photo is Connie Stotts' deer stand, from which the blue waters of Green River Lake can only be imagined. Judge Stephens sees the development as an obvious one to increase traffic to Green River Lake. He sees it as augmenting, not taking away from any Green River Lake destination point. It will be, if it all works out, the most convenient access to Green River Lake from population centers in Louisville, Lexington, and for Ohioans. The project idea is only one of many bursting forth since the announcement of the Heartland Parkway construction from the Bypass in Columbia to the Adair-Taylor County line at Coburg.
