Epicurean Kentuckian: The Canadian Menace
2015-10-23 - Newport, KY - Photo by Pen. Ask any statistician, and they'll tell you that the threat to the average Kentuckian from terrorists and shark attacks is minuscule compared to the threat from high cholesterol. Which is why it's so concerning to find Canadian WMD's (Weapons of Mass Deliciousness) within the borders of the commonwealth. This dish, purchased at a seemingly American establishment, in broad daylight, right out on the streets of Newport, Kentucky, is Poutine, the national dish of Canada. It starts with crispy french fries, covered in cheese curds, then topped with a savory gravy. According to Wikipedia, poutine is "considered exotic," and is mostly sold "in small, greasy spoon type diners ... and in hockey arenas."

Beleaguered Morning Glories make small comeback
2015-10-23 - Adams Alley, Columbia, KY - Photo by Joyce Coomer . Well, my poor little, beleaguered morning glories have managed a small comeback and have been in bloom for the past couple of weeks. I hope freezing temperatures hold off long enough for them to produce viable seeds for next year's crop. - JOYCE COOMER
