Christmas Day Flood 2015: Road to pasture like a boat ramp

2015-12-25 - Image Lane, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener.
The stream beyond the first tree line is the home channel of Pettit's Ford Creek. The access road in the foreground usually goes to Dr. Arnold's pasture, but this Christmas morning it had more the appearance of a boat ramp on Green River Lake. - Ed Waggener

Bull Run Creek, Christmas morning 25 Dec 2015

2015-12-25 - Off Bull Run Lane, Columbia, KY .
Heavy rainfall Christmas morning created dozens of little waterfalls along the banks of Bull Run Creek, and created this white-water-if-it-weren't so brown turbulence in the stream, which acts up quicker than most, but regains its gentle temperament, soon, too. - EW

Bull Run Island on a rainy Christmas morning

2015-12-25 - Bull Run Lane, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener.
The unoff from the headwaters of Bull Run Creek makes the creek rage quickly. These cattle were on what was almost an island this morning, with drainage from Bull Run Lane creating a stream in the foreground and Bull Run Creek, behind them, becoming a torrent. There was ponding on the road when the photo was taken at around 7amCT, Christmas morning. - EW

A Christmas Safety message from Adair EMD Mike Keltner

2015-12-25 - 107 N High Street, Columbia, KY - Photo Mike Keltner, Adair County Emergency Director.
The Office of Adair County Emergency Management would like to wish you a merry Christmas and happy holidays. We would like to also remind you this Christmas to "Turn Around, Don't Drown", when you encounter flooded roadways. Several streams have flooded roadways and pooling / runoff on roadways can cause hydroplaning. Mike Keltner, Adair Emergency Management, 107 N High Street, Columbia, KY 42728.

Christmas 2015: Landmark in transition, a moment in art

2015-12-25 - Green River House, 100 block S Main, Greensburg, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener.
The Green River House is a property in transition, with plans for a 10 room hotel, a 75 seat restaurnat, and a Tavern. It's in one of the two precincts in Greensburg where alcoholic beverages are legal now. The building is owned by Col. Bill & Justine Landrum, Mimi Moore, and of Stonehammer Properties, LLC. Maybe most are anxious for the building's promise, this is Greensburg, where visual arts are a major attraction. Yesterday, on Christmas Eve, it offered a fascinating study in what was and what is, what is real and what is real only in suggested imaginings. The lower windows are - it takes a second guess - art. The two doors on the right are real, and we think the left one is, too. The number "1001" at the bottom of the door is not a number at all - it's a reflection from the Woodson Lewis Building across the street on South Main. On Christmas Eve, Greensburg was very, very busy. It was probably not due just to the eye candy, though there's plenty of that, but also to the Downtown's reputation as a destination a wide array of eateries - at least 10 to a dozen within walking distance of any downtown parking place. - EW
