Walk & Talk: 10,342 strides before 7:38amCT, mostly inside

2015-12-26 - CM International HQ - Photo - CM.
So as not to offend and bragg, we won't tell you which one of our 175 year old editors accomplished this feat, no names will be used. Well before 7:38amCT when this photo was taken, the aged wonder had in 10,342 strides, with over 80% indoors the balance on walk around the Square. Even when the attempt to pass 10,000 strides and make it home was aborted because of 'funder and wightening' at Richard Lee Walker's office, the failsafe Walk-while-waiting was utilized' to get in the full 10,000 strides before an emergency ride came. For my arithmetic challenged friend Homer, here's the math, we think. With a 30" stride that works out to over 1.6 miles, with the only 'fuel' 1 can of gluecerna, two slices of Honeybaked ham, four glasses of water, and four cups of coffee, no gym fees, special clothing a pretty good pair of socks, and a not-so-good pair of shoes, and a cell phone, which is something of a necessity these days.

20-foot tall Holly tree, with Christmas red holly berries found

2015-12-26 - Sycamore Springs, Adair Co., KY - Photo by Cynthia A. Meyer.
It may be a tad late, but thought I would send a picture of some Holly off one of my Holly trees. I have several small trees and bushes, and admit to be pleasantly surprised to find a tree of about 20 ft tall in a cedar thicket, complete with Holly berries. Most of the Holly I have seen do not sport the berries like this one does. Merry Christmas to all... - Cynthia A. Meyer

Christmas Day 2015 Flood: Green River out of banks at Neatsville

2015-12-25 - KY 206 & Little Cake Road, at Neatsville Bridge, Adair County, KY - Photo by Jason Mardis, Aerial Concepts (c) 270-250-1867 drone photo .
Here is what the river is looking like down by Little Cake on this Christmas day. Pretty high with more rain expected. - Jason Mardis. Taken mid afternoon, 25 Dec. 2015.(Besides the impact of the downpour show in the swollen river, this picture has some some incredible geometry, awesome symetry with the road and the river. In the upper section of the photo, the road to the left - to the west - is Elkhorn Road. In the middle right of the photo, the county road is Eunice-Dunnville Road, a short KY 2289, which is .82 miles, connecting Liberty Road with Dunnville Road.

Christmas Day Flood, 2015, Adair Co., KY: Woody is stranded

2015-12-25 - The Flat Woods, Adiar County, KY - Photo by Miss Victoria Pike, Greater Bliss, KY.
Miss Victoria, the Greater Bliss correspondent, reported flooding across from her place, over across KY 61, the dividing line between Greater Bliss and the Flat Woods. "Woody is stranded," she writes, sending this photo who shows ponding at the launching ramps next to Woody's bridge. Mr. Woody has friends - Robert Flowers, Johnny Vaughn, and others of that ilk, but whether or not they are are kind to go rescue a marooned buddy is anybody's guess. Miss Vicky is concerned, as she is for all people, but not enough to get Miss Mahindra's tires dirty -besides, it's out of her jurisdiction.

Low life vandalizes Second Christian Church

2015-12-25 - Second Christian Church, 828 Burkesville Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener.
Billy Wheat, Trustee of Second Christian Church, wonders who kind of a low-life would vandalize a church. The window was broken sometime overnight. Mr. Wheat discovered it when he came in to check the dining room before the start of the annual church Christmas meal, which begins today, Christmas, December 25, 2015, at 1pmCT and lasts "until the food runs out." It's the fourth time in recent months the church has been vandalized. This time a burglary didn't accompany the damage, and Mr. Wheat said that when Christmas diners come, they won't see any evidence of the break in. He said that he has a spare window and screen, and he'll clean up the mess the vandals made. The Columbia Police Department is investigating.
