Scenic Metcalfe Co., KY: Winter Greenery, Good Luck-Beaumont Road
2016-02-07 - Good Luck-Beaumont Road, Metcalfe County, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener, CM photo. Moss lovers can find great green patches of it so easily in the winter time. It's what's making a Know-Your-County-Better-Tour so great, especially for spotting areas of mosses and ferns, as here on a south bank of a creek, seen from a bridge on Good Luck-Beaumont Road, a major "short cut" - it won't take a much longer time than the long way, S. on KY 163, east on KY 90/John Muir Trail, to get from Edmonton to Burkesville or the other way around. Hard choice, though, that stretch of the Big Road has spectacular scenery; the Short Cut, more serene, gentler but equally beautiful terrain. Makes one wonder: where is the largest area of moss cover within the counties of Metcalfe, Russell, Taylor, Adair, Casey, Cumberland and Green??? - EW

Epicurean Kentuckian: breakfast goes green
2016-02-07 - Columbia, KY - Photo By Ed Waggener. Breakfast this morning starred Kale greens garnished with celery chips and onion, alongside fluffy scrambled eggs. Thick sliced, smoked country bacon shared the plate also. Why not take a quick phone camera snapshot and share your Super Bowl Sunday foods as you prepare to cheer for your favorite team today. Game action begins suppertime after a day full of features and previews. -- LW

Students hear Brock's Mark Twain performance
2016-02-07 - Lindsey Wilson College, V.P. Henry Auditorium, 210 Lindsey Wilson Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener. Upward Bound Program students in the audience had questions about Mark Twain - American Icon, performed by Robert Brock Saturday February 6, at Lindsey Wilson College. Brock told them he practiced about two and a half hours every day for seven months in order to be ready to become Mark Twain on stage. The free Chautauqua event was attended by about a hundred people, mostly students, from Adair, Casey and Metcalfe Counties. I was happy to be amongst the adults with friends from LWC Jackie Montgomery, Phil Hannah and friends from CU Dr. and Mrs. Wesley Roberts. - LW.
