2016-04-27 - Greater Gadberry, District 3, Adair Co., KY - Photo by Jeanne Marshburn.
Jeanne Marshburn found these delightful little bluets growing on the farm she and husband Charles own off Johnson School Road. There's more on the flowers in the Wikipedia entry, Houstonia (plant)/Bluet. They are very easy to find. At first glance, they can be mistaken for Star of Bethlehem, but the difference is easy: Star of Bethlehem has five petals. Bluets have four.

Bro. Dewey Cooper, 93, Russell Co., KY (1922-2016)
He was a much admired and respected evangelist. 'His words and actions came from powerfully deep heartfelt convictions, not from posturing -- and not for the thickening of his wallet. He and his beloved Margie are arm in arm again, strolling about and taking in all the sights of heaven.' " - A Russell County Friend.

Weather watchers check this Snowball Viburnum

2016-04-27 - Reed Street side, City Hall, 116 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com (c).
One observer has monitored this weather herald for many decades and it has never failed him. He says that there will be no more cold snaps when the blossoms leave this snowball Viburnum beside City Hall. The observer is, at his insistence, anonymous. But Kentucky Color author Billy Joe Fudge, who calls the snowball viburnum blossom the perfect flower, also follows the signs the Snowball Bush and gives assurances that the last cold snap has been visited on us, and he gave us the term, "the snowball which never melts."
