Wildflowers of Kentucky: Buttercup, the Weed

2016-05-16 - Metcalfe County, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com (c).
Pastures are as much or more yellow this year with a beautiful wildflower which is a noxious weed for cattle farmers, called buttercups. Some fields are so solidly covered that it looks as though the plant had been purposely grown as an agricultural crop. However, Adair County Agent Nick Roy said, "It's a weed. It's crowding out forage crops cattle need. They smother out grass crops, so there is less for cattle to eat."

Scenic Metcalfe Co., KY: Sulphur Springs Baptist Church

2016-05-16 - 1323 Beechville Road, Edmonton, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com (c).
It's in the heart of Downtown Beechville, KY. The picture postcard view approaching is just a hint of what one of America's most beautiful church campuses has to offer. The grounds and landscaping are meticulously loved and cared for, and there's a solitude and peace there one could liken to a mini-retreat. Photo taken Sunday, May 16, 2016. - EW
