Scenic Green County, KY: McKinney Corner, KY
2016-07-02 - KY 88 & Pierce-Donansburg Road, Green County, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com (c). Wanda Thompson corrected a serious CM geographic or trip log mistake. She writes, "This is an old store at McKinney Corner. This store sits on the corner of Hwy 218 and US 68/70. It is definitely an old landmark for everyone living in the Exie, Liletown, Pierce, Little Barren, Crail Hope and Newt communities of Green County. Rebecca Curry recently did a painting of this store and we have a print of the painting hanging in our kitchen.
- Wanda Thompson. Thanks, Wanda Thompson for putting the record straight. So, readers, the little building is in Green County, but at McKinney Corner, not Donansburg. My only excuse is that I had OD'ed on Kenny Scott's Hawg Daddy BBQ. It was worth it, in spite of the ensuing mistake. _ EW

Flowers of summer: Mock Rose of Sharon a warm welcomer
2016-07-02 - E Fortune Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. According to the The Wikipedia entry at Hibiscus_syriacus says the flower is also called Syrian Ketmia, rose mallow and St. Joseph's Rod, Korean Rose - it is South Korea's National Flower. And, of course, it's commonly called Mock Rose of Sharon. By any name, the flowers were warm welcomers on Friday, July 1, 2016 on East Fortune Street, were this one was photographed hosting at least three critters and elsewhere around town. - EW. (A WARNING NOTE: Best not slip and call this a "Rose of Sharon" around Billy Joe Fudge, who can get very upcited about the infraction. See: Kentucky Color: Rose of Sharon, indeed!).

Kentucky's Vibrant Communities
2016-07-02 - Frankfort, KY - Photo Screenshot. The screenshot from a page (www.artscouncil.com/Vibrant Communities) features Bardstown, Covington, Danville, Maysville, and Paducah. The communities in this region, Burkesville, Campbellsville, Columbia, Edmonton, Greensburg, Liberty, Jamestown/Russell Springs all have many, if not most or more, of the attributes of many of the communities on the list. Maybe sometime in the near future some or all of our South Central Kentucky communities will be specific criteria for the designation and will be recognized by the Kentucky Arts Council in its list of Vibrant Communities. - EW Click on headline for complete story
