Jamestown Marina on Lake Cumberland enjoying high traffic

2016-08-07 - Russell County, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com (c).
Kentucky's 56th Gov. Martha Layne Collins' administration approved the dock road improvement, causeway, hotel complex in the mid-1980s which allowed for this popular Russell County development. Since that time, the Jamestown Marina and Resort growth has been constant. In addition to Russell, the lake also touches the Kentucky counties of Clinton, Laurel, McCreary, Pulaski and Wayne with a 1,255 mile shoreline. A Saturday visit led me to wonder if Pastors Rick Mann and Dr. Jeff Eaton are still holding the lake church Labor Day reunion services as they were in a 2010 visit.

KY Color: Answer to age old question

2016-08-07 - Green Hills, Columbia, Adair County, Ky - Photo by Billy Joe Fudge.
For years, two cute little Wrens had used the break-away mechanism on a basketball goal for their nest. When the goal was taken down, Billy Joe Fudge feared he'd seen the last of the diminutive entertainers. But this year, he writes, "I found this tiny nest with four eggs about the size of the end of my pinky finger. The nest seems to have a little horse hair or part of an old tired, discarded toupee adding to the comfort factor of the accommodations." He adds, " I'm hoping that these little eggs will finally answer the age old question, "do blue and brown match"?

Epicurean Kentuckian: Pairings made in heaven: Tomatoes/Focaccia

2016-08-07 - E Fortune Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com (c).
Plate-size center slices from an Heirloom Tomato Bruce Wilson had just picked from his organic garden and he and Patsy delivered straight away in a care package to our house made the perfect complement to the focaccia bread Linda had just made. Seasoned with just a a bit of salt and mandatory olive oil, canape sized chunks of the tomato married with a saltine size portion of bread was better than any pizza - yes even better than any tomato pie we'd ever eaten. Simple. Easy. Quick. An entire supper, with the perfect beverage, a really tall glass of C/AC Utilities District tap water chilled with a tray of ice, and shaken 100 times. It was supper. But add Country Ham and Black Coffee and it would make a fantastic breakfast. - EW. Paired photo. See - Epicurean Kentuckian: Pairings made in heaven. Focaccia/Tomatoes

Epicurean Kentuckian: Pairings made in heaven. Focaccia/Tomatoes

2016-08-07 - E Fortune Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com (c).
Homegrown ingredients made this first ever focaccia bread perfect. The home grown from the garden ingredient is fresh rosemary, carefully tended by Linda, Blue the Cat, and the Delightful Little Kitten from Nowhere. It was made from a mix, from an easy recipe which turns out a dough described as like pizza dough. The cheese choice was grated Parmesan, and it was just enough. The bread was served with a thick slice topping of fresh from Bruce & Patsy Wilson's garden, room temperature heirloom tomatoes. Perfect. Simple. Better than any pizza or tomato pie ever served. We thought. -EW. Paired photo. See - Epicurean Kentuckian: Pairings made in heaven: Tomatoes/Focaccia Photos Sun 1 Aug 2016.

The photo was taken a few days ago. For the most part it can still be seen today. The spire is on the Columbia United Methodist Church. The blossoms adorn the lower level of the Columbia-Adair County Chamber of Commerce parking lot.
