The Heartland Parkway: Intersection at Cane Valley

2016-09-04 - Heartland Parkway at KY 2972, Cane Valley, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener.
The Heartland Parkway has gotten a bit of negative previews, because of the narrowed lanes from the original design and the narrow shoulders and close guardrails. But the jury is still out. The road is well marked. The intersection at Cane Valley Mill Road, in the dip, above, give emphatic visual cues which are better than the old road. The 2 + 1 concept thus far, seems to be working, so long as drivers strictly observe the 55 mph speed limit and are constantly vigilant. The green sign denotes the Captain Tony Grider Highway. Anyone wishing to share comments and/or safe driving tips on the Heartland Parkway may do so using the Comments link with this photo. - EW

A Different Where in The World - Epicurean Kentuckian Question

2016-09-04 - ????? - Photo ?????.
A Different Kind of Where in the World Is It. A one of a kind full plate of down home cooking. There's only a few hints. 1) It cost less than $12.00, and this isn't the whole meal. 2) The blue item is the water glass. and 3) They do chicken livers and gravy right. 4) It is not a Golden Corral plate. All we'll tell you is that it is in Kentucky. You tell us where and give favorable critique. Answer using the "Comments" button with this photo. CLUE: It's in the same county as Purgatory Hollow.

Epicurean Kentuckian: Not same old Spaghetti & Grilled Chicken

2016-09-04 - A & M Farmers Market Chop House Restaurant, 7393 Campbellsville Road, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener.
The chefs at A & M Farmers Market Chop House came up with a new twist on the very standard Spaghetti with Meat Sauce and Grilled Chicken Strips with a garden salad and sprinkles of Freshly Grated Parmesan, as usually found in roadside diners. It was served on a bright orange plate, which made it even better. The restaurant also puts Texas Pete and, with a gentle nudge, Dale's BBQ Sauce, a secret ingredient introduced in Adair County by an epicurean trucker, Albert Cundiff, who discovered it in Alabama. Today, Dale's is found on the condiment shelves in many finer grocery stores. It's sort of supercharged Worchestershire sauce, and includes a healthy dose of ginger and garlic in its ingredients.
