Jason Grant, Egypt, KY, used old technology to save money

Somerset Community College student Jason Grant, Egypt Adair County, KY, engineered a ram pump to provide water for his farm. The pump, built using technology originating back to the 1800's, takes the energy of flowing water and pumps it uphill. Using the technology, he saves over $50 per month on water bills for his cattle. The step enabled him to see him through some pretty hard times after the Jamestown Fruit of the Loom plant closed. - Photo by Allison Horseman

Academics celebrated 29 Sep 2016 Adair School Board meeting

There were unfurlings and unfurlings of the new banners which celebrate the best academic standing in the history of the Adair County School District. Above, standing counterclockwise, are Jim Lieb, David Jones, John Shelly, and Steve Turner holding the huge vertical banner which will adorn Adair County Primary Center. Banners for all the schools were displayed - along with one for the Central Office. At left, Zac Oakes, the editor of the Adair Progess observed. It was a night of celebration for Athletics, Agriculture, campus aesthetics, and all extra-curricular activities - all with historic successes, but the perspective was summarized by Godfrey Jackson, in his plea to add Volleyball Coach and to open the idea of Archery. "We always remember that we start with Academics, concentrate on Behavior, and then, after we have those right, we try to provide athletic and extracurricular activities for every student. But always it Academics & Behavior first." Banners were unfurled fall the schools, along with a smaller one for the Central Office. - ED WAGGENER

The guest speaker for the annual Lake Cumberland Area Development District annual dinner was Byron Crawford. Chairman of the board, CJE of Russell County, Gary Robertson, left, listens intently. Miss Cynthia Rowe and I attended along with around 150 people from the 10 county development district. I was appointed to the Council on Aging by CJE Michael Stephens a few months ago. I certainly hope I can help link Adair seniors to the services provided by the LCADD. - Vicky Browning Pike
