Fire completely destroys Doug Keeton residence at Fairplay 2016-10-14 - 4330 Fairplay Road, Columbia, KY. - Photo by Ed Waggener . The fire which was reported at noon, was still smouldering at 3:11pmCT, after the Adair County Fire Department had arrived, controlled the blaze, and left the scene. The pine trees still stand, as well as a sentry chimney, but that was all. The the burning rumble contained almost all of the personal possessions including his books - even his PhD manuscripts, of Doug Keaton, Energy Instructor at Lindsey Wilson College. The landmark structure on Scenic KY 704, was situated on the highest knoll on an idyllic 12 acre baby farm, once owned by Johnny Begley, then Gary Powell, before Professor Keaton bought it a few years ago. Keaton, his dog Van, neighbors Tim & Jonathan Nuszbaum, and fellow Lindsey Wilson instructor Cindy Clark were left to secure the few items left after the blaze. Adair County Sheriff Harrison Moss with one of two new 2017 Ford Interceptor SUV the ACSO took delivery of today, Thursday, October 13, 2016, at Crossroads Ford & Lincoln in Frankfort. The vehicles cost $37,252. each, with special police equipment and markings. They were purchased off the state contract and did not have to be bid. Sheriff Moss is in his sixth year in office, and these are the first new vehicles the department has had. The cars have special interceptor equipment, which means that insurance is good on the vehicles even in high speed chases.
