Lenny Stone, General Manager of the Columbia/Adair County Utilities District, points to one of the 15 major chicken producer facilities in Adair County, only two of which are served by natural gas. He told those at the utilities regular February 9, 2017 session that the facilities are eager to have natural gas (provided by Columbia Gas Department). Natural gas provides energy at approximately one-half the cost of propane. The chicken barns figure greatly in projections for making a county wide gas system. orange lines on the map represent CAUD's existing and abandoned water lines, which Stone said the utiility is studying as possible conduits through which new natural gas lines could be installed, an idea suggested to the utility by Barry Stotts of Stotts Construction Company, If this can be done, he said, it would save tremendously on construction costs.
