I was intently watching a flock of noisy geese when I heard a rather insistent robin chirping in the tree branch just over my head. Looking around, I found myself just inches from this juvenile robin, likely resting up after an attempted flight. I'm not sure if the adult robin was warning the juvenile about me, or warning me about the juvenile, but I moved a few yards away to give them space. Robert writes, "One of the highlights of our recent trip was hiking this slot canyon. It is reported the state has over a 1,000 of them, with many of the more popular ones in the southern portion of the state. Willis Creek slot canyon is around 23 miles from Bryce Canyon National Park. Leaving the main paved road, the final 6 mile gravel road has some steep, somewhat spooky-at the edge of cliffs driving, along with washboard roads...well you soon start to second guess yourself if this was such a good idea. But if you settle your nerves, and complete the drive, the payoff is worth it in the end. It is a beautiful slot canyon. We racked up 2.7 miles in total hiking. I believe there were 5 sections of slots, and each one seemed to get better than the last. Shiloh Christian Church 150th Anniversary 2025-05-28 - Adair Co., KY - Photo courtesy Mike Watson. Anniversary napkins printed for the 150th Anniversary of Shiloh Christian Church. The text reads The original church founded at Shiloh in 1875 was called The Church of God in Christ before becoming Shiloh Christian Church. Thomas B. Johnson donated the land to build the church on, the Montgomery Family the wood, and Jasper Bryant the carpentry. The wooden church burned in 1951 and was rebuilt in 1952 and remains the oldest active church in Adair County. Christa Montgomery Gimbel, whose father was a native of the Joppa community of Adair County, hosted an event that celebrated not only her ancestor, Francis Montgomery, Sr., but also included the 150th anniversary of the church. More than a dozen intrepid explorers made the trek across fields and into the woods to discover many of the earliest Montgomerys buried in Adair County.
