Scarcely had the detour barricades gone at the intersection of KY 61 and KY 90 in Burkesville, KY for the repaving project there, than local residents had created an impromptu bypass at Cliff Street, Cumberland Drive, Veterans Drive, and a variety of other possibilities including Upper River Road to get from North to South 61. Similar work around "Shortcuts" were also developing on county roads and other city streets when this photo was taken. If one weren't aware that Poison Hemlock is an unwelcome invader, one might think it's the state wildflower of Kentucky. According to Wikipedia, wikipedia.org/wiki/Conium_maculatum, derives its scientific name from the Greek Konas, meaning to whirl, because one of the symptoms of ingesting the plant is vertigo. The article in Wikipedia says that the plant can be dangerous to humans to humans and livestock. And therein lies its imminent peril. It has attracted the attention of Miss Victoria Pike - who has already appealed to the Adair County Fiscal Court to eradicate it in Adair County, to local representatives to engage the help of Agriculture Commissioner Ryan Quarles, to fellow farmers and all who will listen to join her crusade to eliminate the noxious invader - native to Europe and North Africa, she said. KSP conduct early morning drug raid in Murray, KY 2017-05-22 - Murray, KY - Photo from Senior Trooper Jody Cash, KSP Post 1, Mayfield, KY. MURRAY, KY (19 May 2017) - Kentucky State Police's Drug Enforcement and Special Investigations (DESI), along with KSP Post 1 Troopers, and KSP Special Operations K9 served a search warrant on First Street in Murray this morning at 5:30amCT, 19 May 2017. The warrant was issued as a result of an ongoing drug trafficking investigation. During the search, Troopers located various drugs inside the residence along with a large sum of cash believed to be proceeds of drug trafficking. Clifton D. Jones, age 37, of Murray, Kentucky was arrested and charged with First Degree Trafficking a Controlled Substance (Meth), First Degree Trafficking a Controlled Substance (Cocaine), Trafficking Marijuana 2nd Offense, Tampering with Physical Evidence, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Jones was lodged in the Calloway County Jail. The investigation is continuing by KSP DESI. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Kentucky State Police DESI at 270-746=7834 or anonymously at 1-800-222-5555.
