One of the best - if not the best - professional Ribeye Chef's around was operating a hot food stall at FM2, Saturday, June 17, 2017. If he were holding the steak the way fishermen display a bream to look like a man-killer Asian Carp - the very generous six-ounce ribeye would have looked like a Jim Porter sized steak. His Ribeyes are cooked to order, seasoned to order, and 'fixed up' to order. The Ribeyes are so big they have to be folded like a New York pizza before tucking into the hoagie bun. Some have them for a share dessert, after dining at FM2. Some get them to go and make at least a couple of meals out of them. Great Pinto Beans - The ubiquitous protein source may be the unofficial National Food of Adair County. Volunteering an opinion on which restaurant offers the best may result in a challenge to settle the ensuing argument in a too physical fashion, including methods disqualifying one from this office. But there are subtle differences in each establishment's version. This bowl came was a part of a buffet bar which let's one fix it up on one's own, then later order Tabasco or Frank's - vinegar's already on the table - for delivery by the waitress. One thing a Pinto Bean aficionado learns quickly is that not all pinto beans are created equally. That is because everything matters: The source of the beans, how they are cooked, and the preferred ratio of broth-to-bean. That would have been better, above, had broth occupied the greater volume. Some like the dish served piping hot, others prefer tepid. (We think the hotter the better.) Some prefer diced onions mixed in, some fresh green ones pulled in dew time from a local garden. To fix them up, some like them straight, some just check the salt and pepper content and then get down to the business of nourishment. The biggest problem we had with this dish was it had to wait to be dessert. Just a few years ago, Donna Jones offered just one product - honey, at the farmers market from just one stall. That was a hit. Later she branded her own honey, from Big Black Dog Farm, and then later, she expanded to fresh fruit and produce. Another success. Now she's expanded her non food gift products, like these colorful and useful pot holders - what cook could ever have enough - like the two above. Amazingly, the price is only $1 per, as a gift and a thought much less than most greeting cards, and far less than the cost of a cup of coffee, even without a tip. She's the president of the Adair County Garden Club, and, as such shares her experience and ideas freely. We fly the flag: on Jamestown Hill, Columbia, KY 2017-06-18 - Jamestown Hill, from United Citizens Bank world headquarters campus - Photo by Ed Waggener, camera bearer, composition directed by Linda. This photo was taken from what I know as Russell & Lorene & Susan Russell's front yard. The scene entails what may be the most expensive real estate, today, in Adair County. Maybe not as high as the some in adjoining counties, but using CJE Mike Stephens' reasoning, it's the ground center for commercial property 'in walking distance of Lindsey Wilson College.' Above, it's the scene is a reminder of the coming Fourth of July. Photographers are alway reminded of one of the hardest hues to capture without bleed - red. For those out-of-warranty, particular those enjoying their withering years social security checks, free for now from health care worries, and are at peace with their creator, they may remember what once was, counterclockwise from left: 705 Jamestown Street and the two and a half story white house from whence our tribe sprang; next door, the beautiful, screened porch and spirea enhance home of Mayor Ralph Willis, his wife Ruth Hill Willis and their daughter, Hilda Joyce; and on the Franklin Nissan Corner there was absolutely unforgettable home of 'Miss' Hattie Eubank and later the wonderful Melson family; and time warp picture of what is now CVS Pharmacy - the dominant red on the corner, where once Adair Builders Supply, the Wilkerson or Wilkinson/Clyde & Anna Cole Young, and their boy, W. Darrell Young lived, and finally, the Standard Oil Station from which Charles Giles of G & G launched his enterprises which still thrive, elsewhere, to this day. A picture in want of a CM Directory of Churches entry. This photo was taken on the "shortcut" across where the Iron Bridge on the East Fork used to be, past where Billy & Mildred Sparks once lived, on toward the Price's Creek Community. It was taken with a goal of placing the church in the CM Director of Churches, under the heading of "Baptists, United." Turns out, there's a heading but no entries in the category. We hope to remedy that, by making it a cause. We know there are many United Baptists in this area. Maybe they are the third most prevalent of the Baptist denominations, after Southern Baptists and its mirror image Separate Baptists. Over the years, we at ColumbiaMagazine.com have had many proofreaders, whom we greatly appreciate, correct "United Baptist" to "United Methodist Church," some from around here who ought to have known better, many from off who have only enjoyed a vicarious life in our part of Paradise, USA, Guy Babin's term for mostly what is, but for sure, what ought to be. Maybe we can put this confusion to rest. And - a by the way - are there any American Baptist Churches in our part of the world.???
