Wayne writes, "It once had long lateral branches close to the ground, and about seven large vertical branches growing from them. I checked on the tree again [recently] and found that the longer lower limb has broken off and lies on the ground where it fell. A small section has been cut off to clear the trail that goes by it." Pedestrian crossing marking improvements underway 2017-06-22 - Crossing, Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com(c). Yesterday evening, Wednesday, June 21, 2017, will go down as a Red Letter Day in Columbia, as striping crews were in town painting Crossings, above from Greensburg Street to the Courthouse and at several other places where pedestrian crossings have never been. The crews worked until 11pmCT. The last crossing was across Jamestown Street, enabling pedestrians, walkers-for-health, and shoppers on foot get the Curry Street, Sonic, and the Best Western Hotel. We're hoping to have more on the patterns soon. Mayor Curtis Hardwick said he hopes to have more information on the overall plan today. "I started asking about this improvement last fall," he said, "And they just now have gotten it underway." He said he is pleased with what he's seen so far, and that the KYTC District Office has been very cooperative in taking local needs into consideration on changes. Mayor Hardwick said he is expecting changes on the original plans for improvement at the Farmers Market/City Hall/Grissom-Martin/Adair Judical Center upgrades. She discovered the painting behind her in storage and was very surprised to learn her Dad made it in school. She insisted it go home with them. Tillie also lovingly packed a few keepsakes left by her Great Mema who passed away in February and she volunteered to be their keeper now.
