Favorite Old Postcards: Drinking from the Sulphur Well 2017-06-30 - Sulphur Well, Metcalfe County, KY - Photo from the collection of Geniece Leftwich Marcum. In the first years after discovery of the artesian well in northern Metcalfe County, before the concrete arch was crafted which would be labeled "the Gum", there was just this wooden fountain to drink the famous Sulphur Water from. The water came out of the ground with enough strength to allow a drink without touching the wood. No names were added to this old postcard so we can only guess who they might have been in the early 1900s. The forecast called for partly cloudy with a slight chance of thunderstorms.
