Adair's Smartest Dog? Red Man, another nominee

Could be he belongs in the Hall of Fame of Smartest Dogs in Adair County - and maybe Red Man's a candidate for smartest dog in three counties - Cumberland, Adair and Metcalfe. Red Man belongs to David Hall, right, who is assisted in his work by Red Man. Hall says Red Man's reputation as a stock dog is justly deserved. All of the accolades must be so, according to Fred Gibson. "That's one smart dog," he judged. And Sheri Norris, of Breeding Country Mart, bragged on Red Man's wonderful personality. "He's sweet," she said. "Everybody just loves him." The photo was taken Sunday morning, July 2, 2017. - EW

A first time, quite delightful discovery for us. But haven't yet found the ID, after hours of searching. (We need an app). Linda photographed it on her birthday eve, Saturday, July 1, 2017. So if any knowledgeable Wildflower expert is ready with an ID, I'd be much oblige for the answer. - ED WAGGENER. Critter ID welcome, too.

The tiny flowers of common mullein
". . . are pentamerous with (usually) five stamen, a five-lobed calyx tube and a five-petalled corolla, the latter bright yellow and an 1.5–3 cm (0.59–1.18 in) wide. The flowers are almost sessile, with very short pedicels (2 mm, 0.08 in)," according to this article: Wikipedia Verbascum thapsus. See also: Paired photo.

Wildflowers of KY: Uncommon Common Mullein at Pellyton, KY

This towering Common Mullein plant stood out amid the boundless beauty of Barnett's Creek Road Road on Saturday, July 1, 2017. It's a native plant, and gets mixed reviews as to its value except for its beauty. So far, we haven't found any connection to tobacco, though its relative appearance makes its appearance far more tobacco-like than rabbit tobacco. Paired photo
