SONORA, KY - (Sun 19 Nov 2017) - Kentucky State Police Post 4 Troopers responded to the Five Star in Sonora (364 E. Western Avenue) on a report of a robbery Sunday morning. On November 19, 2017 at approximately 3:46amET, a white male brandishing a black handgun entered the store demanding cash and merchandise. He is described as having white hair, blue eyes, wearing tan military style boots and a gray hoodie type jacket. He also reportedly has a very distinctive deep voice. The perpetrator approached the store from the direction of the Dollar General Store in Sonora and also left the same way. This handsome sprinter was diligently protecting his share-the-road rights on Clear Fork Road in Russell County, KY, Sunday afternoon, November 19, 2017, as we were learning, for maybe the fifth or sixth time time that this county road is not a good short cut from the Salem Community to Ono. It is, however one of the most pleasant drives in Kentucky, and encounters with characters like this one are frequent. The bird reminded us of the biker's share-the-road episode in the Tv series, "Portlandia." Joseph B. Payne, whose passing a year ago sparked family and friends to honor his lifetime contributions with a special event. Jacob spoke for himself and his brothers, remembering their father's influence and love. That affirmation was applauded as there are few in this area who haven't heard and been moved by her incredible voice. Before she sang, she said it as one of the favorites that her brother J.B. always asked her to sing -- 'When you see me coming, I've got Jesus on my mind.' Joseph Payne loved and it seemed appropriate when the event in his memory was organized to include a meal for the whole community to feed everyone, whether they were able to donate to it or not. When Bro. Billy Payne began organizing the event, he enlisted the help of all his family and friends who he knew would bring it together. Tom Legg, pastor of Columbia First Church of the Nazarene, who prayed over the meal before everyone began to share in the bounty; and at right on the stage Rev. Billy Payne who was the one who conceived of the idea and led in organization of the event in honor of his brother.
