The Whitehurst Diaries: brambles and sweet smells

Along the east boundary fence and where the south ravine widens into a deep gulley, blackberry brambles and wild rosa carolina edge into the verge that Jim attempts to keep in check. Walking at twilight the perfume of their delicate blossoms almost compensates for their invasive ways.

We experienced an early spring in south-central Kentucky - gentle rains, warm days and only a few very light frosts that didn't blight the first rush of leaf and bloom.

Birds of Kentucky: Little Lost Geese

Watched the two slightly older juveniles at right make a loop around the park, after they somehow got separated from their parents. The geese at left firmly but politely let them know they weren't allowed to join the younger ones at center, and sent them on their way.

Sgt. Major Dan Kermeen and family

Sergeant Major Kermeen is married to Tavon Kermeen, and together they have two children, Dyllon and Kaileigh. Kermeen will assume the duties as Squadron Sergeant Major for Marine Air Support Squadron 2 in May 2024.

In April 2024, Daniel Kermeen was promoted to his current rank and is set to assume the duties as Squadron Sergeant Major for Marine Air Support Squadron 2 in May 2024.

Ad for Reed & Coffey, Undertakers, from 1898

Reed & Coffey, Undertakers, opened in Columbia the late winter of 1898. The ad above appeared on page 2 of the Adair County News, published in Columbia, Kentucky on Wednesday, March 9, 1898. It ran for about 10 consecutive weeks; after that, no mention of the firm appeared until autumn of the following year.
