Vultures gathering on Hwy 206, plotting the next meal

2017-12-26 - Liberty Road, Adair Co., KY - Photo by Ed Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com.
We've been documenting the wealth of Mistletoe in Adair County, considering it as a holiday cash crop, and at a distant glance we thought this tree top on Liberty Road might have more. However, as we drove closer it became obvious the tree was headquarters for black vultures. In Columbiamagazine.com archives, many entries are featured on vultures troubling farmers in this area, clicking the link takes you to the stories and photos in our files. -- LW

Julie and Floyd Burton enjoy after-Christmas breakfast

2017-12-26 - 5097 Liberty Road, Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com.
Floyd Burton and daughter Julie were out early for after-Christmas breakfast at Patty’s General Store & Deli on Liberty Road. Julie shared that her niece had given her some pretty earrings and matching necklace with her initials. Floyd took time to approve the country ham being served there and also the ham cooked by the Extension Agents at the Adair County Extension Office breakfast recently. He says he is a qualified judge because he is the "only certified HAMitologist in the area with a PHD (pile it high 'n deep)” degree. -- LW

We have ice on the ledges, watch for it on the roads

2017-12-26 - Little Cake Road, Adair Co., KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com.
Temperatures are definitely winter ones, 27 degrees at this writing. We had to look closely to examine whether this was an icicle or a snake roiling around the dry weeds on this rock ledge. Either way, it was good it wasn't on the roadway and we moved on. -- LW

Christmas Lights 2017 - Historic Metcalfe County Courthouse

2017-12-25 - Edmonton, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, columbiamagazine.com.
From in front of the drug store on the public square in Edmonton, this is the view of the historic Metcalfe County Courthouse. It's what I used to look out on when visiting Ruby Wallace and other friends across the counter after school. Always good to revisit it at this time of year. -- LW
