2017 Christmas in Columbia - Ten minutes till chimes for the evening
2017-12-29 - From Adair Judicial Center, 201 Campbellsville Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener.
How old do you have to be to understand that the time "ten till chime," for this photo on December 16, 2017, could possibly be 4:50pmCT, or 16:50hrs. Wonder if any kids know what time it is when older residents tell them the time is "ten of," or "ten till." or "twenty after." Not many I'm sure. If it were a more rational world, we'd be on military, law enforcement, first responder time, VFW Post 6097 time. 2018 would be a great year to start it, don't you think? And somewhere, numbers are already crunched tell us how many lives would be saved, how much money would be saved and how, at least marginally, the world would be a greener place. Most of all, if military time were used consistently, it would make life easier for CM Events entries. Assuredly, however, the planet will never be rational enough to follow Commander Joe Hare's lead on this. - EW/LW

Miracle at Christmas, or is one of these the story?
2017-12-28 - Burkesville, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com. Could be, he meant stop in at the Alpine, and missed that a mile. Could be, he was hungry for shoulder sandwich at Hamilton's, and missed that as well, and it looks like he even missed, by a few toes, arriving safely on top of the Cumberland County Courthouse. Could be, all ended as planned, and the parachuting Santa Claus is just doing what he does, brightening Upper River Street, in Burkesville, KY. - EW. Paired photo

2017-12-28 - City Hall, 214 Upper River Street, Burkesville, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com. Santa Claus looks like he made through utility lines in his descent, and is hanging on. A Christmas Miracle? Or is there another story one might imagine? See Paired photo

Election 2018 - Brian Wright files for Commonwealth's Attorney
2017-12-28 - Office of Secretary of State Alice Lundergan Grimes, Frankfort, KY - Photo Submitted by Candidate. Brian Wright, Liberty, KY, filed Monday, December 4, 2017, to run for the office of Commonwealth’s Attorney for the 29th Judicial Circuit (Adair & Casey Counties) in the Tuesday May 22, 2018 election. Above Brian Wright and wife (Nikki) and their youngest son (Brady – age 10) at the filing, in Frankfort. Their oldest son (Coleman – age 13) wasn’t able to make the trip with them because of basketball. Wright formerly held the office, and was appointed by Gov. Bevin to serve in the post following the retirement of Gale Williams.
I served as Commonwealth’s Attorney from 2002-2012 and was appointed by Gov. Bevin back to this position in April 2017, and have continued as CW Atty since then. I was also an Assistant CW’s Atty from 1998-2002.
Thanks for all you do to cover news and events in Adair County and the surrounding area. I really enjoy reading Columbia Magazine and I do my best to take a look at it nearly every day.
