The Changing Face of Fairground Street and the Old Fairground 2018-02-04 - From Young Street across Fairground Street, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com. The entrance to the former Adair County Fairground, 413 Fairground Street, Columbia, KY, was removed this past week, along with most of the concrete above ground level. Diagonally across from the Young Street stop sign, what you don't see are the limestone wing walls of the entrance, the above ground pedestal for the Veteran's Memorial Monument, and other concrete features which stood at the entrance. To the right of the sign, across the street is Pyles Excavating equipment used to prepare the site for it's next use. Sue Grafton at one of her alphabet series book signings 2018-02-03 - Photo from family collection. Good friend Joan McKinney of Campbellsville, at right, and I talked about how deeply we felt the loss when one of our favorite authors, Sue Grafton, pictured with Joan at left, passed away at the end of the year. Joan had enjoyed having met her when she'd attended a book signing. Grafton, author of the best-selling "alphabet series" of mystery novels, died in December, 2017 at age 77 after she'd fought a two-year battle with cancer.
