Columbia Fire Chief Mike Glasgow, now serving in his 49th year with the department, persuasively presented the departments case for assistance with the purchase of new turnout gear to replace 13 year old outfits and got a heads up to proceed with getting grant money and City assistance to replace a pumper next year. The council voted to provide $30,000 for the turn out gear and sanctioned efforts by fire department public information officer Donald Hare to procure a grant for the purchase of the new pumper, which, he said, will have a price tag of $375,000 to $500,000 and with a local share of 6.8%. The purchase will likely happen in 2019, Chief Glasgow said.
