The Stotts Family - Connie, Barry, Melissa, Lu and Junior - is, at least temporarily, posting the property - no trespassing - and is temporarily, at least, barricading the entrance to Coffey Cave, recently rediscovered by Junior Stotts, while they review the situation. Junior said the measure is taken for safety reasons. The family uses the site for a staging area for equipment, such as the Kobelco track hoe, above, used in the Burkesville Phase of the Columbia-Adair County Utility District's Downtown Project. However, the family wants to thank everyone for their entrance to the cave and they welcome continued input on the history of the cave. Granddad always pointed to Sundogs when they appeared in the sky, saying they were signs of weather coming in. It may not be very visible but there's one pictured in the lower left of the sunset pictured earlier this week from the old hospital hill on Bomar Heights. The touch of pink is just above the dark gray cloud bank rolling in from the southwest. Sundogs are little rainbow-like blasts of color created when sunlight filters through moisture. The heavy rainfall of winter 2018 has kept the creeks throughout Adair County flowing and overflowing at times. This wandering creek, usually only two-thirds as wide, was taken from one of Judge Stephens' signature red bridges in the Flatwoods suburbs. The Salato Wildlife Education Center in Frankfort, KY, re-opens March 1, 2018. The Salato Center's striped skunk, above, is now training for its public appearances and will not be on permanent exhibit until later in the year. Visitors hoping to catch a glimpse of the skunk prior to that time should contact the center at 502-564-7863 to see when it will be available for viewing. Hours are 8am-4pmCT/9am-5pmET, Tuesday through Friday, and 9am-4pmCT/10am-5pmET Saturday. Salato is closed on Sunday, Monday and state holidays. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for youth 5 to 18.
