The new location for Columbia's Famous Recipe Fried Chicken Restaurant, foreground is taking shape, and adds interesting geometry to skyline with it's three gables, interesting though ephemeral dominant whiteness to the scene in its Tyvek stage. Clockwise, behind the FRC building is Duo-County Telecom/Bluegrass Cellular's retail store, Sleep Inn hotel, and far right the Columbia-Adair County Water tower on at Morgan-Smith Industries on Industrial Drive - a mile away. Tornado strikes Pickett farm in Green County, KY

The Saturday night storms brought a tornado way too close to the home of Indus and Shirley Pickett. Thankfully no one was hurt in their area but the debris can be seen in this photo from what used to be one of two barns turned into piles of rubble with metal roofing scattered all over the fields. - LW

Steven Fields, left, and Kerry Davis, provided comprehensive information about the tornado's impact, as Ed Waggener, center, took notes. They directed us on the path of the storm to the home of Kerry's parents-in-law, Indus and Shirley Pickett. Meeting them was like old home day, with Fields' and Davis' knowledge of North Metcalfe, Green and Hart Counties. This photo shows little of the damage from the tornado, but was made just a few feet from a huge stack of lumber rubble, all that was left of Indus Pickett's barn. - Linda Waggener

Shirley & Indus Pickett, above, stand in front of a downed pine tree and a water tank blown from the field across the road. Metal and wood debris from their farm's one-minute encounter with a tornado on Saturday evening February 26, 2018 at 10:30pmCT can begin to be seen behind them. Two barns and a majority of the trees on the Pickett's five acre farm were destroyed. Fortunately, they said, and so far as they know, no one in this area had been injured, though they knew from television about the death in Logan County County, and the another in Laurel County. - EW

If one counts the bare limbs for late fall, there are the almost full springtime flowers, summer green Magnolia foliage, and mistletoe of winter, on one of Columbia's prettiest streets, which, around the block, intersects with Frazier, an important Daffodil Watch location at this time. - EW
