Patient, well-behaved dog enjoying warm spring-like day
2018-03-04 - Montpelier, Adair County, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener, columbiamagazine.com. A noble, well behaved ever vigilant dog waited outside Betty's at Breakfast time on Tuesday. Out of frame and not seen, its apparently lazier black dog, which occasionally looked over the sidewall on the other side of the truck, checked its surrounding and went back to bed. - EW

Linda's grass??? BJF thinks it's not grass at all
2018-03-04 - Green Hills, Columbia, Adair County, KY - Photo by Billy Joe Fudge, President, Homeplace on Green River. Since I don't know it's name I can only say that it is not a "true" grass, in my opinion. Just to the right of the plant in question is "Wild Onion" which as we all know comes back each year from below ground bulbs. As you can see from the picture of the roots of what I believe to be the same plant from my yard, it also regenerates from bulbs. I never had the plant in my yard until I made a clandestine, late afternoon run to move some rich, Russell Creek, bottomland soil into one of my flowerbeds. Looks as if crime doesn't pay after all. - BILLY JOE FUDGE
A question??? Is any part of the mystery not-grass useful or dangerous to people or other animals??? - EW

Birds of Kentucky: Bird on a tire
2018-03-03 - Russell County, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com. Bird on a tire was the name of this movie, instead of Bird on a Wire, the one staring Goldie Hawn. The little brown bird perched atop a pickup truck tire, waited and watched until the coast was clear, then swooped down to partake of the bread someone had tossed into the parking lot. - LW

2018-03-03 - Northridge Shopping Center, U.S. 127, Russell Springs, KIY - Photo by Ed Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com. This ring billed gull put on quite an aerial show this afternoon, Saturday, March 3, 2018, and rarely landed for easy photos, but it did sit still and defend its nesting and staging area when it was discovered atop a lamp standard. - EW
