Birds of KY: Married Red-tailed Hawks? Planning dinner date? 2018-03-10 - Between Steve Coomer place and Bobby Downey Farm, maybe in Dr. Parnell tree - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com. These monogamous raptors, social exemplaries for family values, were out hunting in a distant tree from our vantage point on Greensburg Road. Ironically, they were spotted just two days after Steve Coomer, who lives less than a mile back toward town, explained their range as being within one square mile of their nest. Assuming our guess on the species and relationship is correct, that's surely a providential coincidence. The birds make a grand sight, above, hunting for their dinner. Maggie was very well behaved as she waited patiently for her chauffeur to return with her master. She's a shelter dog, adopted one year ago into a loving home, after hard launch. It's hard to guess her breed. Her Dad, for reasons not known and with no guilt assigned, was separated from her Mom, when she arrived at the shelter, so only the maternal side of her family tree is known. Felix is a male beagle mix and he's not fixed.He has a red collar and may be dragging a chain connected to it. He was last seen in White City (Russell Heights), Columbia, KY, attached to his chain on a stake. But once we came outside, he was gone with chain pulled out of the stake.
