Spring's white, redolent locust season is here - 12 May 2018
2018-05-13 - KY 555 near Dylan Lane, Willisburg, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com. This year, the star of spring may be the locust tree, heavy with gorgeous clusters of blossoms as sweet an aroma as honeysuckle. It doesn't seem to happen every year, but this year they are grand. - EW.

VW Country, Russell County, KY - by Tommy Bailey
2018-05-13 - S Hwy 2284, Russell County, KY - Photo by Tommy Bailey . I owned two of these back in the seventies. Truly fun cars to drive. If I remember correctly it took about two dollars for a fill up. Jenny and I drove one to Florida and back with no problems, but later that same VW blew a engine and left me stranded beside the road in Green County. I was glad that it didn't happen to us while in southern Florida. - Tommy Bailey - Picture taken 5-12-18 S Hwy. 2284 in Russell County, KY

Pest control with no frequent fee: Dirt Daubers
2018-05-13 - Either Harrodsburg or Columbia, KY, we\\\\\\\'d guess - Photo from Mike Watson, Adair County Historian. Mike Watson sends this photo of some friendly house guests who perform free spider control when host home owner learns to leave well enough alone and does not expend finite energy by doing 'work which should not be did.' Dirt Daubers are wasps, and could sting, but they rarely do unless victim is very mean to them. Having their druthers, they just like to make their living doing their thing. Strange, how most of us grew up thinking their truly beautiful natural insect pueblos were to be knocked down with the blunt end of a broom and then swept away with the other. Not so for these. Photos Saturday, May 12, 2018 by Mike Watson. - EW

Wildflowers of KY: Robin's Nest Trillium 'Glow' at dusk
2018-05-13 - Adair County, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com. Passively, and using environmentally friendly energy source, these yet-to-open Robin's Nest Trillium perform their own version of a Hot Air Balloon glow, with a supporting cast of other species. Taken one beautiful spring evening, April 9, 2018, on a country lane in Adair County, KY. - EW
