It was a happy occasion for Mike Harris at the Thursday, May 17, 2018 meeting of the Adair County Board of Education. He was given a certificate of appreciation and the plaque that was displayed in front of his chair on the dais. He was honored for the enormous contributions he made during the most transformative years in the history of Adair County Schools. He said, "Thank you all very much. I've served my time and I'm going home." His wife Laura, who was with him, said, "He really did enjoy his time on the school board and took a lot of pride in it. We can look back over the 18 years - he started when our kids were in kindergarten - and the campus doesn't look like the same place because so much has been accomplished. Thank you all." Harris continues his support of education and is devoting as much time as ever to improving the community. Roadside Round Bale proves potential as poke producer 2018-05-19 - Along an Adair County Byway - Kentucky - Photo by Linda Waggener. Is anyone obsessed with the notion of producing all ones food from round hay bale gardening? I know I am. This round hay bale is likely the result of an accident. The Poke may not have been intentionally planted, but it seems to be thriving. There have been extension courses on hay bale gardening. Wondered if anyone added it on a commercial basis. Bales are supposed to be able to grow sweet and Irish potatoes, mushrooms and more. Would it be possible, given the bales' propensity for spontaneous combustion, to time that phenomenon for instant baked potatoes? Too many maligned plants have some redeeming qualities, just as, to paraphrase a quote in "Walking Dead," every plant is better than it's worst trait. Daisies, on the left, just plain happy up everyplace they are. But if for no other reason, how in the world could anyone find a better way to diagnose true love, to know whether she/he loves one or not.
