Kentucky Color - False Solomon's Seal
2018-05-20 - Green Hills, Columbia, Adair County, KY - Photo by Billy Joe Fudge, President, Homeplace on Green River.
There is an old proverb which should make False Solomon's Seal feel a bit better: "The name of a thing does not matter as much as the quality of the thing." I can honestly say that I agree completely but I can’t imagine being saddled with the name "false." I dug one False Solomon's Seal about 20 years ago on Jabez Ridge, brought it home and now I have several growing 'neath the Loblolly canopy behind our house. - Billy Joe Fudge

Scenic Adair Co., KY - Sleek cattle through a rain-dappled glass
2018-05-20 - Along Acree Road, Magisterial District 3, Adair County, KY - Photo by Ed & Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com. We share a love of making pictures glimpsing the incredible beauty and life activities that demonstrate what it's like to be in Adair, Taylor, Green, Casey, Russell, Cumberland and Metcalfe Counties in south central KY in these times -- and occasionally what it's like in far off places like Shelby County, KY and the counties in between -- Marion, Washington, Spencer and Nelson, traveling the back roads and big roads that deliver us to and from our Grandchildren. And it's wonderful anytime we receive photos from readers who also love to make pictures of their places around the country and around the globe. - LW

Wildflowers of Kentucky: Honeysuckle, exquisite up close in spring
2018-05-20 - Dale Hollow State Park, 5970 State Park Road, Burkesville, Cumberland Co., KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com. Often names are so obvious we forget the connection. And honeysuckle is misunderstood, even those of its many ardent supporters forget that it's first name is "honey." That should be reason enough to leave the plant alone and let its nectar feed the bees which make honeysuckle honey. - EW. Photo Saturday, May 19, 2018. - EW

Birds of KY: Inanimate Trickster Iron Crow
2018-05-20 - From Island View Restaurant, Dale Hollow State Park, 5970 State Park Road, Burkesville, Cumberland Co., KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com. Up close, this iron crow is obviously decor - thematic decor as it's seen elsewhere on the campus of the lodge grounds at Dale Hollow State Park. But from inside the restaurant, diners are frequently faked out, wondering why the crow never flies. - EW

Birds of KY: Wily Burkesville, KY Turkeys, headed for cover
2018-05-20 - KY 90 west of Burkesville, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com. They were feeding in a pasture on KY 90, west of Burkesville, KY, football fields away, and for a time a slow stop along the shoulder did not bother them while several frames were shot - but then they bolted for the wood line, and disappeared from our lens. - EW. Photo Saturday, May 19, 2018. Paired photo: see: Birds of KY - Wily Turkeys at Dale Hollow State Park
