Come to Columbia - and have camera at the ready!!!
2018-08-05 - Flower Garden, 328 Public Square, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener. There are stop-in-your-tracks photos everywhere one turns on the Square in Downtown Columbia, where evolutionary changes are taking place, melding a sacred past with long-held goals of the past. This scene was captured early Friday morning, August 3, 2018, while sharing the Square and maybe unseen others. This was taken with CM's 'Good Camera' but showstoppers come just as often using a cellphone - often better ones, particularly high noon. Where else is window shopping so good? - EW

Epicurean Kentuckian: Fiesta Burrito, better the deeper you dig
2018-08-05 - Fiesta Mexico, 819 Jamestown St., Columbia KY. - Photo CM Ad photo.
(Ad Photo) - The current Saturday Special at Fiesta Mexico, Burrito Fiesta - Large flour tortilla field with seasoned ground beef or tender chicken, with Mexican rice and beans, lettuce, tomato and sour cream, $6.75 - is enough food to fuel a construction worker. And for many mature adults, it's too much for one meal. This one recently provided a viewside window meal & a Sunday Breakfast. What's really great about the place is that, while it appears to be just a delicious Mexican Salad Dish, the deeper one digs, the better it gets. The ground beef is perfectly seasoned for the native palate - though mild for Pepperheads - but authentic flavors can be goosed up with an array of condiments provided tableside with no need to plead with the wait staff to provide it. Take out boxes are provided at any stage of the meal for those who need to make a second meal from the generous servings for budget and/or dietary reasons. - EW

KY Color: Fogs-in-August & Debunking notion of Fog Spiders
2018-08-05 - Green Hills, Columbia, Adair County, KY - Photo by Billy Joe Fudge, Newly ensconced Down Townie. "I just wanted to alert the general public to a Great Wooded South University research project that has been fully funded and is currently underway. This important research project is purposed to debunk a couple of Dark Age beliefs carried over in some segments of our population. The two beliefs are; A - Grass Spiders are August Fog Spiders and B. these said to be August Fog Spiders are carried to us by the first fog of August." Billy Joe Fudge explains some scientific connections in the accompanying research paper. Click Read More to access complete white paper dealing with highly topical issues, nowadays.

Birds of Kentucky: Canada Geese fly-in at Adair Schools campus
2018-08-05 - From Col. Casey Drive, near Adair County Schools Transportation Complex, Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com. Canada Geese have developed gooseports all around the community, all year round. This assemblage had nearly three dozen of the birds within eyeshot of Adair County Primary Center and the bus garage. The photo that attracted our attention looked as though a goose at the top of the apex was trying to give a sermon or speech, practicing the Horaltic pose favored by vultures. Turns out on close inspection, it's two Canada Geese, one grazing, the other erect. We're wondering if anyone is keeping a diary of where the flock goes each day. - EW. Photo Sat 4 Aug 2018, five days before School Starts on the Parklike Campus.

Scenic Adair Co. KY: Breathtaking, beautiful summer
2018-08-04 - Adair County, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, columbiamagazine.com. Summer 2018 has to have been, so far, one of the most beautiful on record in south central Kentucky. Gazing over these rolling, deep green fields on the Acree Road side of Adair County makes me wonder if anyone could say where it is if there's a place more perfect? - LW
