City Lights of New Columbia - Coming into 'Happening Town(s)' 2018-08-07 - Pinewood Shopping Center, New Columbia, Adair County, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com. Haiku by Robert Stone on ColumbiaMagazine.com recently averred "When you are seeing/lights of towns after midnight/size is suggested." It was only after supper time Monday night, August 6, 2018, but size and activity was suggested by the night skyline of New Columbia with the glowing lights of construction at the Magic Market, a full frontal view of the Raider Bob CAUD water tower, and parking lot lights providing many moons on the lower horizon. New Columbia was "a happening town", as former Mayor Pat Bell liked to say of Columbia. Out of frame, the new Black Stallion Steakhouse was a buzz with customers, even though the sign of the door begged customers to understand that during the soft opening days, the staff is in it's training week. Back on the Downtown Square - in its revival mode, it seemed as though 'To the Nine's' were already happening. The fun part there was seeing families out, enjoying the Fountain Plaza dining area, slow ambles around the two-tenths mile walking perimeter, with the beautiful sounds of giggles and laughter providing the music of the night. A major action was approval on the rights-of-way signings needed for the construction of a sidewalk from Lindsey Wilson's Holloway Wellness Center to Lowe's Lane, to the Lowe's Lane Intersection with Jamestown Street at the Columbia Church of Christ, the longest segment in the LWC Main Campus sidewalk system to the Lindsey Wilson Sports Complex.
