The one-way/yield sign at left remains beat up and crooked -- whenever anyone asks for it to be corrected they hear, "that's the state" -- so if anyone from state government is reading this, please, the citizens of Adair County need a corrected sign facing Greensburg Street on Columbia's public square. Ministries, represented by Maggie Coleman, standing, and Lee Ann Jessie, seated, made their formal request for the lease of space on the lot beside the county's 9-1-1 Center at High & Merchant Street for an Emergency Shelter for Adair County homeless or near homeless citizens. J.O.Y. Ministries will provide the shelter building and pay the monthly costs and work with local law enforcement. The request was approved, and in a phone interview after the meeting, Coleman said, "at almost the same exact moment I was presenting to the Fiscal Court, my cell phone had received a message requesting help for a family of four who needed shelter for the night. Adair County Judge Executive Michael Lee Stephens presided over a fast paced, 42 minute session of the September 11, 2018 regular session of Adair Fiscal Court. All members of the court, Harold Burton (District 1), Daryl Flatt (2), Sammy Baker (3), Perry Reeder (4), Billy Dean Coffey (5), Greg Caldwell (6) and Terry Hadley (7) were present. Also at the dais are Deputy County Judge Executive Andrea Waggener, Session Recorder Gale Cowan, and County Attorney Jennifer Hutchison-Corbin. Among important issues settled were the adoption of a same-as-last-year tax rate, and the receipt of tax rates from the Special Program Government Entities, several appointments, hires, and promotions, and approval to lease a portion of the parking lot at the county's 9-1-1 Center at High & Merchant Street for a J.O.Y.
