Wikipedia has this to say about Euptoieta claudia: " Their flight is low and swift, but even when resting or nectaring, this species is extremely difficult to approach, and, because of this, its genus name was taken from the Greek word euptoietos, meaning easily scared.

Epicurean Kentuckian: Everything with lox

An all-savory combination from Nancy's Bagel Grounds at their new home on Spring Street in Louisville. Everything bagel with lox, cream cheese, tomato, onion and capers. Nancy's sells sweet bagels, but we didn't ask if they'd make one bagel-gate style.

Gardens and Farmers Market are winding up for the season

The Columbia-Adair County Community Garden pictured here is among many in the county ending their 2018 summer growing seasons. The Farmers Market where growers meet and share their crops will be having a big event this coming Saturday, October 6, at the corner of Merchant and Campbellsville Streets, as part of their last few Saturdays of this year. Questions about the farmers market may be directed to Donna Jones, 270-634-2125. For information on this community plot for next season, contact cacgardenmanager@gmail.com.

School Resource Officers and patriotic flags discussed at CC

Columbia Police Chief Jason Cross updated the City Council on the School Resource Officer progress during Council comments section. Behind him is Roy Rademacher who requested that City flags be left out after the Labor Day holiday to include 9-11 because of its significance in our country's history.

Gas Superintendent Ron Cook with request of City Council

City Gas Superintendent Ron Cook requested permission which was granted by the City Council to advertise for bids to build a new gas line from Old Burkesville Loop near the Veterans Bypass around to New Columbia's Sleep Inn. He explained before the decision was made that getting rates for and building a new line will assure gas can be provided to New Columbia businesses in the event of downtime from the Lampton Lane line should that happen. The decision of the Council was to allow for prices to be gotten with a decision on the actual building of a new line to come only after examining budget possibilities.
