Kentucky Color: Winter Beauty II

2019-02-03 - Columbia, KY - Photo by Billy Joe Fudge.
Winter Beauty was identified quite quickly which I really enjoyed seeing and indeed expected. This Winter Beauty II, American Holly in it's own right, is just as beautiful but could be a little more challenging to recognize it's location.

Obviously, American Holly is an leafy evergreen as opposed to evergreens with needles.
  1. What is another leafy evergreen growing locally?
  2. Do you recognize Winter Beauty II?
  3. If so, where is it located?
Winter will soon fade away and these Winter Beauties will disappear into the Summer tapestry of Green. Let's catalog them while they are still easy to find.

Old Knifley - comparing the cost of living in 1897

2019-02-03 - Knifley, northern Adair County, KY - Photo from Mitzi Bault, CM staff.
This account book from my Great Grandfather's Knifley store dates to 1897. You could buy a pair of bib overalls for 68 cents, six yards of cotton for 57 cents. You could buy a half gallon of oil for five cents - these prices are crazy. Every day he posted in his book what he sold. He kept up with each sale cash and change. This day in 2019 Rick and I made a trip to Louisville to see my Oncologist. Can you believe the difference in making this trip in 1897? --Mitzi

2019-02-03 - Downtown Columbia, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com.
It was lunchtime when I looked outside and saw this crowd at the bird feeder - male and female Cardinals, little blue-gray birds and one that resembles a Yellow-bellied Flycatcher which has a green back. - LW

It's Super Bowl Sunday 2019, this is a look back

2019-02-03 - Columbia, KY - Photo collection from Doug Beard.
It's Super Bowl Sunday 2019 and Columbian Doug Beard calls it "a rematch of Super Bowl XXXVI." He put together this group of keepsakes and said, "The most important highlight of the day was the remembrance of those who had lost their lives and honoring the first responders on 9/11, only a few months prior. It was a great show of the "American Spirit."
