Wildflowers of Kentucky: a summer favorite
2019-06-27 - Backroads around Green River Lake - Photo by Linda Waggener, columbiamagazine.com. This field Daisy scene just captures all the joys of summer for me. The gentle breeze stirring the blossoms so the lens can barely focus, the colors and smells of the rolling hillsides they thrive on and the reminder of the strong women who raised me, teaching me to appreciate them, all come to me each spring and early summer. - LW

City council reading: Annex Pinewood
2019-06-26 - Columbia, KY - Photo by Tiffany Kessler.
By Tiffany Kessler
Columbia City Council votes 3-2 on first reading to annex Pinewood Shopping Center into city limits.
The issue was debated for around 15 minutes during Wednesday evening's special called meeting and included a motion by council member Dr. Ronald Rogers to postpone a first reading until the city receives a formal request asking to be annexed into city limits by the majority of property owners. The shopping center is currently owned by three entities. Rogers and council member Sharon Payne voted no to a first reading while council members Mark Harris, June Parson, and Craig Dean voted yes on the action.
According to Mayor Pam Hoots, a second reading, which will allow for public comments, is expected to be held in July.

Joey Topping always carries a smile
2019-06-26 - Columbia, KY - Photo by Tiffany Kessler. Tiffany writes, "In an era where just about any means of communication is available at our fingertips, there remains a nostalgic feeling when you receive a package or hold tangible mail that was delivered to your box. It's even better when you have a great mailman like Joey Topping. Topping has been with USPS for 14 years and covers a large area of Columbia. He always carries a smile."
